BETAGROW® 480 SL is a selective contact (foliar) herbicide formulated as a soluble liquid (SL). It is designed for early post-emergence use, primarily in bean fields, to control a range of broad-leaved weeds and annual grasses without harming the crop. It is also noted for use in crops such as potatoes.
Active Ingredient: Bentazone 480 g/L
Mode of Action: Selective contact herbicide (HRAC Group 6 / C3). Absorbed mainly through the foliage (green parts of the plant) with very little translocation. It inhibits photosynthesis by binding to a protein in Photosystem II, causing the weeds to die. Thorough wetting of leaves and stems is essential for best results. Warm weather and good growing conditions enhance its effectiveness.
Primary Targets: Annual broad-leaved weeds, yellow nutsedge (water grass/nut sedge), and certain annual grasses.
Main Crops: Beans (especially dry beans); also suitable for potatoes and other listed crops depending on local registration.
Best applied when weeds are at the 3–5 leaf stage and the crop is at the 1–3 leaf stage.
Excellent selective control of broadleaf weeds in beans and potatoes while remaining safe to the crop.
Effective against yellow nutsedge / water grass.
Flexible early post-emergence application window.
Provides strong weed control that reduces competition for nutrients, water, and light, supporting higher yields.
Convenient soluble liquid formulation that is easy to mix and apply.
Rate: Typically 1.5 L/ha (or approximately 50–150 ml per 20 L of water, commonly cited as 150 ml/20 L).
Mixing: Half-fill the spray tank with water, add the required amount of BETAGROW 480 SL while agitating, then fill to the required volume. Use the spray mixture immediately after preparation.
Timing: Early post-emergence when weeds are young and actively growing.
Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI): 35 days.
Re-entry Interval: Approximately 12 hours (or once the spray has dried). Always wear protective clothing (overalls, gloves, goggles) during mixing and application.
